Teach TV Production

After being in the media business and having some experience under your belt,you can offer info to the next generation of reporters and anchors. Most universities require you to have a Master's degree but they do offer teaching positions to working professionals. As a professional still in the business you can offer insight that can't be found in a book. After a fulfilling career in TV, teaching might be a rewarding change.  Here's a few opportunities. - An application cover letter with statements of teaching philosophy and research interests

- If available, submit unofficial transcripts of graduate work from all institutions attended. Official transcripts are required if an offer of employment is made.

- Three letters or recommendation.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master's degree with demonstrated experience in Final Cut Pro, ProTools, iDVD, iMovie, Adobe, and Live Type software

- Established commitment to providing excellence in education, including the ability to present course teachings in such a way that students are encouraged to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, to increase motivation, to develop a positive self-image, and to clarify their values.

- Computer skill proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software.

- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population and adapt to change.

- Commitment to research and professional development.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- An earned terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.)

- Demonstrated success teaching at college level.

- Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of undergraduate courses including introductory and intermediate video and film production, broadcast and digital technologies.

- Candidates with teaching experience and expertise in an additional area also offered in the assigned department is highly desired.

- Knowledge and experience in using instructional technology.

- Evidence of scholarly activity.



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Teach four undergraduate courses each semester in Video Production and Editing, Broadcast and Television Production, and other courses within the candidate's area of expertise.

- Serve as senior portfolio adviser.

- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, including instructional technology when appropriate.

- Present teaching materials in an understandable manner and develop related testing measurements that accurately reflect the stated course objectives.

- Hold classes as scheduled.

- Evening and weekend availability for video lab hours.

- Maintain a posted scheduled of office hours (minimum 10 hours per week), including morning and afternoon hours.

- Advise students in appropriate course scheduling; assist advisees in defining and developing realistic goals in keeping with their abilities and interests.

- Actively participate in student recruitment to increase enrollment in the respective academic area.

- Participating in freshmen students' orientation.

- Assist in planning, development and improvement of curricular offerings.

- Advise students toward effective learning, appropriate course-taking, professional writing, and the expected conduct in class, on campus, and elsewhere.

- Evaluate the records of transferring students.

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records pertaining to attendance, assignments and grades.

- Assist in the job placement of graduates.

- Maintain effective collegial communication, professional interaction, and functional relations within the assigned Department and throughout the campus.

- Actively engage in scholarly activities and professional development, including the initiation or collaboration with other faculty in the submission of grant proposals, attendance/participation in workshops/conferences, membership/holding office in professional organizations, writing and/or research for publication, consulting and/or editing.

- Active service to the University, such as participation in committees, a faculty organization, and service to a student organization.

- Active service to the community, such as participation in the programs of local service organizations and involvement in public affairs through work with local, state or federal governments, to ensure the University's connection to the community is maintained.

- Attend official University functions.

- Abide by and ensure compliance with all departmental and University policies and procedures.



POSITION SCHEDULED: 10 month contract



COMPENSATION:

- Budget maximum of $42,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
