Primary Responsibility:
Responsible for conception, writing, producing on-air and off-air promotional material for the various premium movie networks of Starz Entertainment, LLC. Submit multiple unique, viable creative treatments at a network quality level for assigned projects. Implement brand strategy and creatively support brand directives and programming initiatives across multiple thematic channels, from concept to finish edit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the concept development, writing, and producing of various length video and/or audio spots or segments, including script writing, selecting music, video clips, implementing graphic elements, and directing voice-over talent.
• Produce promotional and interstitial elements using non-linear editing platform through collaboration with editors.
• Conceptualize, write, and edit scripts for promos to strategically impact viewers with specific content and messaging.
• Establish and maintain production schedules to meet all deadlines.
• Conduct pre-production and research duties such as gathering content (lifestyles, music, politics, clothing styles, history, etc.) affiliated with campaigns for use in production; music for image spots; etc.
• Direct various personnel as needed on shoots including but not limited to, camerapersons, light technicians, on-screen talent, etc.
• Determine opportunities to reuse elements from previous productions.
• Verify that program, script, and sound effects conform to broadcast standards.

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree preferred; Minimum three years experience in television production and editing; Three years experience in promotions at a broadcast station, network, or program supplier; and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with non-linear editing.

At QVC, what happens behind the scenes on the Live Show results in great TV. QVC has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Associate Technical Director (ATD) in our Control Room at our corporate headquarters in West Chester, PA.

Reporting to the Control Room Supervisor, the ATD directs and technical directs, coordinates robotic cameras and/or cues manual operators, instructs graphic operators and backstage team to obtain desired effects. The ATD also performs the duties of Assistant Director, Graphic and Audio Operator and works with the video server and associated equipment to produce full motion video of product display. The ATD routes and operates robotic cameras for live sales presentations and works with the Floor Manager to make sure the off-line cameras are in proper placement for upcoming sells, as well as supports the Technical Director by receiving direction from the Line Producer so the TD can keep full attention on the Live Show.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a related field.
- 1 - 3 yrs. of directly related experience including video production, graphics, audio, video disk and production switcher equipment operation required.
- Previous Switcher, DVE and Robotic experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Understanding of Control Room operations required.
- Previous editing and TD experience preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

Freelance Writing

There are many opportunities for writing on the web nowadays. There are huge content mills that will pay you a small amount per article. Despite the criticism, these are great places to get your feet wet in the world of writing. Don't mistake this for journalism. I think web writing is in a class by itself. You can find opportunities that are akin to true journalism or just content to fill a website. Either way you can get paid for writing both. It is up to you which one you will do. Reputable newsmakers are getting into the game of web writing. Online content is hot right now. Knowing terms like SEO and twitter can make you more marketable. PBS NewsHour program

Many broadcast stations offer programs to get you started in the field.
These programs are not quite like internships. You are required to report to work in an entry level position and you recieve pay. The competion may be stiff for these programs but its worth it. In my next posts I will explore some of there programs.

The Desk Assistant (DA) position is part of a six-month entry-level program aimed at providing practical experience in a broadcast news setting. The DA's are exposed to all aspects involved in producing a nightly television news program. This position is divided into rotations among the different units that compose the NewsHour: research, newsroom, reporting, and production. The DAs work in three of the positions for 2 months at a time. They also act as support staff for Senior Producers, Associate Producers, Reporters and Production Assistants.

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time, salaried, benefit eligible

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, the Web Content Manager supports the efforts of the Los Angeles Clippers in managing the content and quality control for its web sites and e-mail marketing. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Edits and publishes web content for Los Angeles Clippers web sites. Is responsible for keeping the sites fresh and “sticky”, encouraging fans to return frequently
Creates, manipulates and edits graphics for web production
Encodes and edits video clips for web viewing
Manages day-to-day proofing and quality control of web sites and email marketing copy
Test sites for errors, spelling mistakes, grammar, broken links, browser compatibility and technical problems
Works with other internal teams to build and update their respective areas on web sites
Helps develop and implement new content ideas
Moderates social network and forums, helping build and stimulate activity within the online community
Maintains web related email boxes, responding to and forwarding messages
Recruit, supervise, and train interns for the Web Department
Various other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree and at least four years experience in related field are required.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic a must. Must have a team-first mentality.
Should be extremely organized and detail oriented.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on writing and editing.
Solid computer skills, Internet knowledge, and good HTML skills are required.
Required computer program knowledge: Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, FTP, Windows Media Encoder, HTML Editor programs (Front Page or Adobe Dreamweaver).
Knowledge of Flash and Javascript is a plus.
Knowledge of the NBA is helpful.
Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and game nights as assigned.
